SUMMARY:Representation and Civic (Re)engagement of Afghanistan Refugees in a Politically Volatile Host Context
DESCRIPTION:More Information \nWe are pleased to invite you to the fifth meeting of the dialogue series\, which will focus on ‘representation and civic (re)engagement of Afghanistan refugees in a politically volatile host context’. \nThe number of Afghan refugees in Germany has risen sharply over the past decade\, especially after the Taliban took power in 2021. By 2023\, around 419\,000 people from Afghanistan were living in Germany (476\,000 including those with German citizenship). With an average age of 26\, many require support\, including representation\, to transition into active societal roles. \nA significant number of the recently arrived refugees were civil society activists in Afghanistan and seek to continue their engagement in Germany. Refugee-led organizations (RLOs) have emerged as vital platforms for inclusion\, advocacy\, and representation—building identity\, trust\, and collective values. \nThis session of Berlin Forum for Afghanistan (BFA) tackles this topic\, bringing together activists\, politicians\, and diaspora groups to explore effective strategies for representation and participation\, especially amid rising political volatility and growing skepticism toward refugees in Germany.\nKey Information: \n\nSession Format: Presentations\, discussions\, and workshops\nHybrid Event: Join in person or online via Zoom\nConfidentiality: The meeting will be held under the Chatham House Rule\nLanguage: English\, Farsi and Pashto\n\nPlease confirm your participation by sending an email to Zia Moballegh moballegh@yaarberlin.de. \nWe look forward to your participation. \n  \nMore Information
