What we do
VAFO's primary activities focus on the establishment of the association and the consolidation of the members. With the support of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), we were able to plan and organize two events:
- Founding meeting of the association, 28.08. and 29.08.2020 in Berlin.
- Adoption of the statutes
- Board elections
- Workshops for members
- Kick-off event for the presentation of the association, 12.03. and 13.03.2021 online.
- Public presentation of VAFO
- Launch of the website
- Panel discussions with federal ministries and federal commissioners
- Workshops for members
Our goals are:
- to strengthen and professionalize our member organizations;
- to enable a paradigm shift in the visibility of the Afghan diaspora and Afghanistan;
- to represent the interests of the Afghan diaspora in shaping development cooperation;
- die Interessen der Afghanischen Migrant*innen in der deutschen Innenpolitik zu vertreten;
- uns mit der weltweiten Afghanischen Diaspora zu vernetzen und mit dieser zu kooperieren;
- uns gemeinsam mit anderen zivilgesellschaftlichen Akteur*innen für Vielfalt, gegen Rassismus und für eine gerechtere Gesellschaft einzusetzen.
Our Vision
We want more diversity in Germany. We want to actively shape the process of a post-migrant society, fight racism and extremism, promote democracy and pluralism.
We want to enable the Afghan diaspora to come to terms with their past and shape their own future. We want to hold intergenerational conversations, learn from one another and be there for one another. At the latest, the next generation of the Afghan diaspora in Germany should have a basis on which they can turn their visions into reality.
But it is also our dream that one day we can experience a peaceful, safe, democratic and sovereign Afghanistan. VAFO will use all of its skills and expertise to make this dream come true.
