HamWatan

VAFO has been leader of the "HamWatan" project since 2023. Together with nine project partners from seven federal states, we participate in the funding programme, which is financed by the Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration.

"HamWatan" works to strengthen and network civil society organisations with Afghan roots in Germany. The aim is to organise and strengthen voluntary work in the associations in the long term, so that both the volunteers and the participants benefit. In addition, the project and its participating associations support the empowerment of particularly vulnerable people within the Afghan community. Furthermore, the participation of Afghans in Germany is to be strengthened.

The sustainability of the project is based on the fact that, on the one hand, Afghan associations in the respective locations have their organizational structures strengthened by full-time staff and the addition of new volunteers, and on the other hand, they network them in their respective cities with other organizations and with the administration. Thanks to the strengthened local structures, refugees gain anchor points for successfully coping with their everyday lives in Germany in all phases of integration and find democratic civil society structures in the Afghan associations with which they can identify.
The project partners carry out various measures that are tailored to their target group and expertise and are thus profitable for the community.
